Norma A. Eaker

Dateline: Bethalto Norma Anna Alyene (Hargiss) Eaker, 95, of Bethalto, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 3:49 pm while at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 22, 1925 in Bollinger County, MO, the daughter of George W. and Fannie Ella (Cornman) Hargiss, she was the youngest of twelve children. She married Selden E. Eaker on September 26, 1942 in Lutesville, MO, he preceded her in death on November 3, 1990. Norma was a member of the Bethel General Baptist Church in Bethalto. She was also a member of the Woman’s Missionaries, Westerner Club, and the Disabled American Veteran’s Chapter 90 Axillary. She loved gardening and her flowers. She is survived by her children, Donald Eaker, Ronald (Mary Ann) Eaker, Elowese (James) Harrison, Dianna (Lou) Nemick, and Mel (Kay) Eaker; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Norma was preceded in death by five brothers; Troy, Lee, Glen, Franklin, and Truman Hargiss; six sisters, Ruby Woods, Ethil Matthews, Hazel Beasley, Georgia Klasing, Mahdeen Thedford, and Christina Worley; a daughter-in-law, Barb; and two granddaughters, Dena and Kathy. A private graveside service will be held for family at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Rev. Phil Warren will officiate.
