July 28, 2013 - December 11, 2020
December 11, 2020 our forever loved and heroic Kailey Paige Almeter took her last breath here on Earth and entered into the gates of Heaven into the gentle arms of Jesus at the young age of 7. Kailey was born on July 28, 2013, to parents Joseph and Amber Almeter of Godfrey, Illinois. Kailey loved listening to audio books, telling stories, and listening to Tom Petty, the Beatles, and country music. Her favorite place to be was at home in her room playing with her rock collection, makeup, and jewelry. You would always find her well accessorized with many bracelets and necklaces. Her favorite thing to say was “oh my gosh.” With limited vision, Kailey’s imagination and love for people really took over. She was able to capture the heart of a stranger and make friends wherever she went. She was a student at West Elementary in Jerseyville, Illinois where she worked hard every day to learn braille and enjoyed chit chatting with faculty and staff. Kailey had a 4.5 year battle with brain cancer. She fought her battle with a resilience that inspired all who knew of her story. During this time, Kailey was asked to and participated in many fundraisers to help spread awareness and raise money for cancer, in support of St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center. She participated in Pedal the Cause’s Ride for a Child for 3 years, was an honorary guest at the Night of the Superstars, starred in the Friends of Kids with Cancer Fashion Show, was featured in a segment on KSDK’s Making a Difference, and a Guest of Honor at March for the Arch and the St. Louis Blues Hockey Fights Cancer. She also had a Facebook page, Kailey Kicks Cancer, that was followed by thousands. She brought many together in prayer and let her grace and light shine through everywhere she went. She is survived by her parents Joe and Amber, brother Reid, her cat Crush Max, and dog Ruby. She leaves behind many family and friends. A celebration of Kailey’s life will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3 PM until time of service at 7 PM at Enjoy Church in Alton, IL. Pastor Daren Carstens and Pastor Ryan Hardin will officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC. A private burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey, IL. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey are entrusted with professional services. Memorials may be made to: Friends of Kids with Cancer.
