Jerry Edmund Gregory

June 28, 1938 - December 8, 2020

Dateline: Godfrey Jerry Edmund Gregory went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 8, 2020. He was born June 28, 1938 In East St. Louis, IL. He married Cheryl Cleary on August 6,1960 and she survives. A son, Brian Michael Gregory; parents, Edmund J. and Helen Gregory; a sister, Karen Schutzenhofer of Huntsville, Alabama; a brother, Herbert Douglas Gregory of Wood River, IL and a niece and nephew preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter Lori A. (Gregory) Hartnett and son-in-law, David B. Hartnett; two sons, Blake E. Gregory, and Craig Gregory; grandsons, Jeffrey & Andrew Hartnett, Ryan, Brent and Lane Gregory; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Brinley, Brent Jr., Dutch, Leo and Huk; a very special and dear friend, Johnny DeLeonypna, who was like a son, and a very special caretaker, Ebony. Jerry would take the grandsons hiking in the woods, where they would build a fire and roast marshmallows. They all wore the same hats; nicknamed the “pappy hats”, and to this day remember all the wonderful times spent together with Pappy. He leaves many wonderful memories for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Jerry graduated from SLU in 1969 with a BS in chemistry. He started his career as a lab technician with CK Williams and later for Monsanto. He also operated Office Machines Exchange in Alton until it closed in 1984. He worked for Dial Corp until he retired in 2010. He was past president of Greater St. Louis Office Machines Association, a member of the Alton Lions Club and Bethalto Rotary, where he helped raise funds for the scoreboard at Civic Memorial High School. Jerry was a member of Moose Lodge 1349 and Alton-Wood River Sportsman Club. Private visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2020 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 AM Friday, December 11, 2020 at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Karla Smith Foundation for Suicide Prevention or St. Ambrose Church. An online guestbook may be found online at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
