James "Jim" Thomas Voss Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

James Thomas Voss, 81, of Placerville, CA passed away on August 22, 2021, in Cameron Park, CA. He was born on September 2, 1939, in Alton, IL, the son of Leo John & Rose (Hartmann) Voss. Jim graduated in 1957 from Marquette Catholic High School in Alton, IL and then went on to earn two master's degrees from St. Louis University. His early years were spent in Alton, IL before moving west to Elko, NV, in 1977. The move allowed Jim to pursue a career working outdoors which was his childhood dream. In 1986, Jim and Rita moved from Elko to Placerville, CA, where Jim retired from the U.S. Forest Service. In retirement, Jim enjoyed visiting and following his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed windsurfing in the California Delta region. Jim and Rita would travel annually to Maui to enjoy the surf and friends. Jim suffered a stroke in 2008. Jim and Rita continued their travels to Maui as long as they could. Jim thoroughly loved his family and friends and helping those in need. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Harris Voss and their children, Paul Voss, Matt (Paula) Voss, Tom (Robin) Voss, Anne (Chris) Caron, Laura (Jeff) Kidman, and Mike (Brigit) Voss; eleven grandchildren, Zach and Kate Voss, Josie and Christopher Voss, Jackson and Lucy Voss, Morgan Castelvi, Julia and Nick Kidman, Hannah, and Noah Dogon; and one great-granddaughter, Layla Castelvi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Voss, three sisters, Alice Pickerel, Sandy Connors, and Eleanor Zitt; and two brothers, Edward W. Voss and Raymond Leo Voss. Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey, IL. Celebrant, Father Jeff Holtman, OSF. Celebration of Jim's life will follow from 12 pm to 3 pm at the Knights of Columbus in Godfrey, IL. Memorials are suggested to Crisis Food Center in Alton, IL.
