Dateline: Moro, IL Dorothy M. Asbury, 82, of Moro, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 8, 1939, in Chester, Illinois, the daughter of Adolph and Verna (Marquardt) Poenitske. She married Ralph O. Asbury on May 28, 1955, in Perryville, MO. She worked at as a Mental Health Technician at Alton Mental Health Center, retiring after more than 32 years After her retirement, she became the President of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employees) Sub-Chapter 59, Southern Illinois Vice President of AFSCME Chapter 31, SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees), secretary/treasurer, Democrat Precinct Committee Woman, and served on the board of the United Way. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, and traveling with her family. She and her husband traveled all 50 states. She enjoyed being involved politically and she was a proud member of Zion Lutheran Church. Surviving are her three daughters, Kimberly (Robert) McLain of Clearwater, Florida, Gina (Rusty) Bazzell of Edwardsville, and Sandra Seymour of Bethalto; a son, Ralph Andrew (Janet) Asbury of Moro; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Ralph, she was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Verna; one brother, Donald Tindall; one sister, Carol Bierman; one grandson; and a great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, with Pastor Kale Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
