Betty Lou Blaine

June 26, 1929 - March 12, 2021

Betty Lou (Smith) Blaine, 91, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021 at Alton Memorial Rehabilitation & Therapy. She was born in East Alton, IL on June 26, 1929 to John Tee and Pearl (Stevens) Smith. She attended school in Southern Illinois and Wood River High School. Betty married Floyd Blaine, Jr. on March 26, 1948 at First Baptist Church of East Alton, pastored by Reverend Bill Bohn. In the Fall of 1948, she accompanied her husband to Rolla, MO., where he attended college. Betty enjoyed her role of wife, mother of two sons, doting grandmother, and great-grandmother. At age 70, she was persuaded by her husband to write her life story, which was an unusual one. It was titled “My Life’s Journey.” It was greatly enjoyed by friends and family, who received a gift copy. Betty is survived by her husband, Floyd; her sons and their spouses, Kevin and Pamela Blaine of Edwardsville and Kerry and Molly Blaine of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Jesse and Danielle Blaine of Mansfield, TX, Meghan Blaine of Columbia, MO, Cale & Dominque Blaine of Columbia, MO, Elizabeth Blaine of Chicago and Joshua and Andrea Woods of Woodinville, WA, great-grandchildren, Blake Woods, Ava Woods, Dylan Blaine, Lillian Blaine, Sawyer Blaine, Waylon Blaine and Josephine Patenaude; a sister, Lucretia Marmino of Wood River, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Larry Heath; a sister, Charlotte Heath McBee and a brother-in-law, Tony Marmino. A private visitation for family will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
